ΡΩΜΑΪΚΌ ΥΔΡΑΓΩΓΕΊΟ
Το υδραγωγείο ήταν απαραίτητο έργο για την πόλη κατά τους ρωμαϊκούς χρόνους.
Έτσι, οι Ρωμαίοι κατασκεύασαν μια μεγάλη δεξαμενή νερού στις πηγές του Ρωμανού
(εκεί λατρεύονταν οι Νύμφες, θεότητες των υδάτων), έργο πρωτοπόρο για την εποχή
και φτιαγμένο προσεκτικά, ώστε να επιτυγχάνεται ο σκοπός, η συνεχής μεταφορά
του νερού στην πόλη. Σήμερα δεν σώζονται παρά ελάχιστα τμήματα του υδραγω-
γείου που θυμίζουν το μεγαλόπνοο αρχαίο έργο, ενώ τμήμα του αρχικού τοίχου του
φράγματος βρίσκεται ενσωματωμένο στη βάση της σύγχρονης δεξαμενής.
THE ROMAN AQUEDUCT Τhe Roman aqueduct was a necessary work for
the town during the Roman years. So, the Romans constructed a large water
tank in the springs of Romanos (where people used to worship the Nymphs,
the goddesses of water). It was an innovative work at that time created in a
careful and complete way so that to achieve its purpose, the continuous water
transport in the town.Today, only a few parts of the aqueduct are saved,
reminiscent of the ambitious ancient work, while part of the original wall of the
dam is integrated in the base of the current water tank.
