VASILEOS GEORGIOU SQUARE The most central and historical square in Patras, a landmark in the town where the “Apollon” theatre stands majestically. Its name has changed multiple times in the past, until 1863, when King George I came to the throne and it was established as Vasileos Georgiou square. However, today it is known as Georgiou Square. It has always been a place of cultural and political events, a meeting point and the centre of the famous carnival. It got its current modern form after a recent regeneration and today it is stone-paved, with trees and the fountain dating from 1875.
