MUNICIPAL LIBRARY AND ART
GALLERY The Patras Municipal Library
was founded in 1908 during the mayoralty
of Dimitrios Votsis. It is the first municipal
library in Greece and hosts a very rich
and valuable collection with more than
50,000 copies. Over these years it
managed to collect important books of
literature and science, personal documents
and archives of local figures and
personalities, with many of them being
donated by great people of this place.
Valuable documents and books signed
by great personalities like Kostis Palamas
and Giannis Ritsos, are kept in a special
part of the Library, closed to the public,
while the access is allowed upon request
and in specific cases. It also features a kid’s

On the ground floor of the Municipal
Library there is a room housing the
Municipal Art Gallery of Patras, founded
in 1988 and hosting important works
of art, mainly from donations, while
the collections are enriched with new
additions. (Free entrance, Daily: 10:00 -
13:00 & 18:00 - 21:00, Weekends: 11:00
- 14:00, Mon. closed)
