“APOLLON” MUNICIPAL
THEATRE The title for the
most impressive structure
in the town, designed by
Ernest Ziller, belongs to
“Apollon” theatre, built in
the most central part of the
town, on Vasileos Georgiou
I Squar (known as Georgiou
Square). It was constructed
in 1872 and is one of the
first and most important
opera theatres in Europe,
as from the first year of
operation it hosted works of
great composers, like Verdi,
Donizetti and Bizet. Its stage
has also hosted great Greek
actors with their troupes,such
as Kotopouli and Mirat.
Due to its importance for
the town during the the
Carnival season, it hosted
dancing events and masque
parties, while or the last 70
years, it has been identified
with the organisation of
the popular “Bourboulia”,
a special event and integral
part of the Carnival of Patras.
The theatre is also the main
stage of the Municipal and
Regional Theatre of Patras

θέατρο γίνονταν χοροεσπερίδες και χοροί µασκέ ενώ
εδώ και 70 χρόνια έχει ταυτιστεί με τη διοργάνωση
των περίφημων «Μπουρµπουλιών,» που αποτελoύν
αναπόσπαστο μέρος του πατρινού καρναβαλιού. Το
θέατρο είναι επίσης η κεντρική σκηνή του ΔΗ.ΠΕ.ΘΕ.
