The historic Monastery of Aghios Antonios imposes on the top of the hill. Although the drive to the monastery (about half an hour from Marpissa) is through an uphill rural road, it’s definitely worth visiting. The monastery, dating back to the 1600, features a woodcut iconostasis and is a three-aisled crossed basilica with 2 domes and precious icons. It’s one of the island’s oldest, most historic and picturesque places of worship. Nowadays, aside from the church, its history is also depicted by the empty spaces of the monastery which used to host monks (dating back to the early years of the previous century). The serenity and tranquility of the place, the plenty of light, the altitude and the view is as- tonishing, transforming the visit into a lifetime experience. Note Η Mονή γιορτάζει 3 φορές το χρόνο | The Monastery celebrates three times each year: 17/01 - 20/07 - 24/09 137
