ΠΑΛΑΜΉΔΙ
Ο λόφος πάνω στον οποίο δεσπόζει το στολίδι της πόλης σε ύψος 220 μέτρων πήρε
το όνομα του από τον οµηρικό ήρωα Παλαµήδη. Λέγεται ότι η δηµιουργία του κά-
στρου οφείλεται στον Βενετό αρχιστράτηγο Μποροζίνι, ο οποίος το οραµατίστηκε το
1686. Το κάστρο έναν χρόνο µετά την ολοκλήρωση της κατασκευής του, το 1715, έπε-
σε σε τουρκικά χέρια, ενώ πέρασε σε ελληνικά έναν ολόκληρο αιώνα αργότερα! Στον
Προµαχώνα Αγίου Ανδρέα, με τον ομώνυμο ναό, θα δείτε το κελί όπου φυλακίστηκε
ο Θεόδωρος Κολοκοτρώνης.
Τip: Στην είσοδο φτάνετε µε αυτοκίνητο (5΄ οδικώς), εκτός κι αν έχετε την υποµονή και
το κουράγιο να ανεβείτε τα 857 σκαλιά (ο θρύλος λέει 999)...

PALAMIDI
The hill where the gem of the town stands at a height of 220 meters was named after the
Homeric hero Palamidis. The construction of the fort is said to has been carried out by
the Venetian General Superintendent of the Fleet Morosini, who envisioned it in 1686. A
year after it was completed, in 1715, the fort fell into Turkish hands, and became Greek
property after a whole century! On the bastion of St. Andreas, with the temple of the
same name, you will find the cell where Theodore Kolokotronis was imprisoned.
Tip: You can reach the entrance by car (within 5’), except if you have the courage and pa-
tience to walk up the 857 stairs (according to the legend they are 999)...
