SYNTAGMA SQUARE
Known as “Platanos Square”, it became “Loudobikos Square” (in honor of king Otto’s father).
In 1843, the Greeks demanded that the young king grants them a Constitution and thus the
square took its present name. Here, once, under the shade of the plane tree, the leaders of
the Independence War devised their revolutionary plans against the Turks ... while today
visitors enjoy the sunny days in the cafes with a view of many impressive buildings ... the
vaulted Parliament Building, the Trianon (old mosque), the Church of Aghios Georgios and
the Archaeological Museum.
