UNKNOWN ASPECTS OF THE ISLAND
Lefkada is a dynamic tourist area with
significant infrastructure. Are there any
shortcomings?
Lefkada is an area that grows every year in
the tourist field, having developed in recent
years to a large extent both its infrastructure
and the services provided to its guests.
We are constantly trying to upgrade the
region as regards to sectors that need
improvement. Unfortunately, no solution
has yet been found to the important issue of
waste disposal, namely the construction of
the sanitary landfill on the island.
Additionally, we have put a lot of effort and
we have managed to significantly improve
the Lefkada road network and especially the
mountain parts for the safety of citizens.

θαλάσσια διαδρομή Κέρκυρα-Παξοί-Λευκά-
δα-Μεγανήσι-Ιθάκη-Κεφαλονιά-Ζάκυνθος
και ανάποδα. Περπατώντας στην Λευκάδα,
ο επισκέπτης καταλαβαίνει αμέσως ότι βρί-
σκεται σε ένα νησί με σημαντικό και βαρύ
πολιτιστικό υπόβαθρο. Δεν είναι τυχαίο ότι
η Λευκάδα είναι η γενέτειρα και η έμπνευση
πολλών και σπουδαίων προσωπικοτήτων
της Μουσικής, της Ποίησης, της Λογοτεχνί-
ας και των Επιστημών.

Η Λευκάδα και το Μεγανήσι αποτελούν
έναν κρυφό επίγειο παράδεισο που προκα-
λεί τον επισκέπτη να τον εξερευνήσει. Περι-
πατητικά μονοπάτια – διαδρομές με σήμαν-
ση σε προστατευόμενες περιοχές NATURA
δίνουν την δυνατότητα στον κόσμο να
περιπλανηθεί σε μέρη με μεγάλη οικολογική
σημασία. Σε αρκετά χωριά του νησιού (Βα-
σιλική, Νυδρί) μπορεί κανείς να καταδυθεί
στα κρυστάλλινα νερά του Ιονίου. Επιπλέον,
τα τελευταία χρόνια έχει αναπτυχθεί αρκετά
και ο μοναστηριακός τουρισμός.
What are the advantages of the area?
The biggest advantage of Lefkada is its
free access through the floating bridge.
Moreover, since 2018, a years-old vision has
been realized, that is the Ionian Islands are
now connected with a ship that runs daily
the Corfu-Paxi-Lefkada-Meganisi-Ithaca-
Kefalonia-Zakynthos sea route and vice
versa.
While strolling in Lefkada, the visitor
immediately realizes that this is an
island with a significant and rich cultural
background. It is no coincidence that
Lefkada is the birthplace and inspiration of
many great personalities of Music, Poetry,
Literature and Science.
What does the world know about the island?
Its unknown aspects.
Lefkada and Meganisi are a hidden paradise
on Earth and challenge the visitor to explore
them. Walking trails with the appropriate
markings in NATURA protected areas
enable people to wander in places of great
ecological importance. In several villages of
the island (Vasiliki, Nydri) one can do scuba
diving the crystal clear waters of the Ionian
Sea. Moreover, in recent years, religious
and monastery related tourism has also
developed.
