THE ISRAELIAN COMMUNITY OF IOANNINA
The capital city of Epirus is also the “capital” of the local Hebrew community, the epicenter of the
Greek-speaking Jewish world. Since then, Hebrews have been residents of Ioannina, maintaining their
own tradition. Many old Jewish houses are preserved until today constitute monuments of architectural
heritage, such as the two Levi houses, the Mord Raphael and Moses residences. The Ancient Holy
Synagogue of Ioannina, built in 1826, inside the Castle, is one of the largest and oldest buildings of the
kind which are preserved until today in Greece.Evidently, the wider area is a destination for Israeli people
facilitated by the direct flights from Tel Aviv which will increase the number of visitors
