Καταβόθρα | Katavothra
Βελωτά | Velota
Start from Stefani , a tranquil mountainous village 18,8 km from Karpenissi , hovering over the entrance of the gorge formed by the mountains Aghios Nikolaos and Livini . Take some deep and clean breaths and some photos and head to Milia , at an altitude of 1,060m , hidden among mountain peaks covered in spruce and offering a breathtaking view . As many other villages , Milia is uninhabited in the winter and becomes alive in the summer . The same happens with Sella , an equally picturesque village with majestic views of the mountains . The next village is Fidakia ( just 2,9 km ), a true miracle ! The stone houses look like a movie setting , the neat vegetable gardens , the temple of the Birth of the Mother of God ( Koimisi tis Theotokou ) in the center , the fragrant alleys , the vegetation and view of Kremasta lake : a true postcard ! After twenty minutes , you ’ ll arrive at Aghia Vlacherna , a special route enjoying the views from the window to the lake and Steni gorge ( make stops at the observatories ). The next village is Sarkini , a beautiful settlement and a handful of stone houses , and Katavothra , a place of extraordinary natural interest , lush landscaped , a waterfall with crystal clear waters and a view of the mountain peak ( 1,752 m ). On the way to Proussos , Velota close to Trikeriotis river is the birthplace of the Greek Politician Pavlos Bakogiannis ( his family granted his family house to the Municipality in order to make a museum ). From this place , a dirt road leads to Esochoria , a remote area with endless vegetation , while after a while , Aspropirgos is a pleasant surprise thanks to its aura and raging nature of Evritania . Here you will find the Aspropirgos Folklore Museum ( open upon telephone communication Τ . + 30 6940 609602 ). Our final stop id Proussos ( see route 1 ).
