Άγιος Δημήτριος | Aghios Dimitrios
It is a truly magnificent route , where you will meet unforgettable landscapes . Ready ? From Karpenissi , after 36,3 km you arrive at the settlement of Viniani . Make a stop at the temple of Koimisi tis Theotokou ( Assumption ) with the impressive blue dome and head towards the old settlement that was abandoned after the disastrous earthquake of 1966 . In the old school is housed the historical museum dedicated to the National Defense , as this is where the “ Government of the mountain ” was born , while on the forecourt there are busts of its members . Save a snapshot for the chapel on the hill of St . George ! From this place , only in 24 minutes you will reach the terrestrial and well hidden heaven covered in spruce , Chrisso . The winding road leads to a wonderful landscape with arched bridges , water fountains , water mills and locals that seem to belong to another period . Driving upwards , make a stop at the quiet village of Aghios Dimitris with the temple of the same name built in 1842 . Return to main Road and head to Daphni that was named probably after the daphnes adorning the church yard of the temple of Metamorfosis tou Sotira ( Transformation of the Saviour ). After about 12 km , you will find Mavromata ( which means “ black-eyed woman ” in Greek ), which will blow your mind with its authentic beauty .
