THE CAPITAL It has been characterised as “ Switzerland ” of Greece , however , Karpenissi and , the region of Evritania , in general , is not a winter destination exclusively . It may host the popular Velouchi ski center , but the mountain ( Tymfristos or Velouchi ) and the wider region are a favourite destination for every season . Karpenissi , the capital of Evritania , is perched at the southwestern slopes of Tymfristos , located 960 meters above the sea level , surrounded by dozens of picturesque small villages very close to each other . Start exploring the unique urban center of the region from a stroll on the marbled Markos Botsaris Square , with the enormous plane trees and the elegant cafe-bars . Karpenissi has a lot of hotels and family guesthouses to welcome you , but you will also be impressed by its modern skate park and the roads with a heating system to avoid icing during the winter months .
