Τσούκκα | Tsouka Κερασοχώρι | Kerasochori
Start in good mood from Karpenissi to Kerasochori ( alt . 1,140m ). You will have to drive 38.2 km to reach this beautiful place , with the important history , as during the Greek Resistance it was used as a headquarters of the Greek People ’ s Liberation Army . It is worth climbing Karaouli rock , kneel before the temple of the Assumption of the Mother of Jesus ( Koimisi tis Theotokou ) and , of course , to take a lot of photos ! You will meet Krenti after just 6 minutes by car ( 3,2 km ) following the Viniani - Chalkiopoulo provinical road and is the perfect base to explore Agrafa , Kremasta lake and Agrafiotis river . After 11.6 km from Krenti , you will find Tsouka , covered in spruce and chestnut trees , offering a view of Agrafiotis river and the bridge of Tatarna , which replaced the formed stone bridge ( 17th century ) that was broken down the lake . In the early 17th century , the renowned bridge of Manolis was constructed , a true folklore architectural masterpiece . For about 300 years , it used to connect the two banks of the river . After the construction of Kremasta dam , a lot of structures were lost in the water , however , this particular bridge disappears and re-appears depending on the water level . Tripotamo is our next stop that smells like clean air and spruce . Τhe village hosts one of the most historical monasteries in Central Greece , the Monastery of Tatarna , in the museum of which you will find valuable heirlooms . Following the Voulpis-Embesou National Road and after 30km , you will arrive at Valaora with the aura of Acheloos and the endless vegetation . After 12km you will meet Chrissova , with Kremasta lake in the backdrop . Visit the temple of Agios Konstantinos & Eleni and the chasm called “ Tripa tis Tatarnas ” (“ hole of Tatarna ”). Aivista , the small lush wonder of nature , was covered by the waters of the lake and the residents that didn ’ t immigrate , they moved to Pratovouni . Through Chalkiopoulou- Viniani provincial road , you will reach Paleokatouna , a new settlement founded after the disastrous earthquake of 1966 in Botsiani village . Find the temple of the old monastery of Aghios Ioannis . The route is completed with Sichniko , a road ideal for the lovers of off-road vehicles , where it is worth visiting the Cave of Katsanonis , who died fighting against the Turks , and , of course , to enjoy the divine landscape !
