KLAFSI The village of Klafsi, with its strange name, meaning “crying” in Greek, which, ac- cording to tradition, took it from the tears that were shed by the inhabitants who remained in the village after its destruction (presumably from the Gauls of Brennus in 279 BC) is located 9 km from Karpenissi. It keeps its traditional identity, very dif- ferent from its neighboring touristy villages, having just one tavern and a cafe. Klafsi is known mainly for the only early Christian monument that exists throughout the prefecture, the basilica of Saint Leonidis. 35
