Katafyki gorge is linked to many legends, according to which one of the caves of
this wild animal shelter leads to Hades and the house of the mythical Centaur.
The impressive natural images will make you want to explore it and surrender into
the tranquility of the special landscape around you. Two seoparate mountains
with steep and rugged rocks create a deep gorge, where hiking is considered very
easy. The stream that flows here creates a beautiful ecosystem, brimming with the
famous orchid tree of Argolis and rare peregrine birds that nest in the area during the
winter months. The Byzantine chapel of St. Nikolaos, built in 1740 with parts of the
medieval wall is the next stop for those seeking religious fervor and reflection. Then,
climb the highest spot, where the “Rage of Devil” is located, a dry trunk. According
to the legens, around the tree the devil hangs his rifles.
