FRANCHTHI CAVE Franchthi Cave, in the northern coast of Kilada Cove is an
indisputable sign of the progress and evolution of humans in the greek area over the last
40.000 years. It is a living monument of nature and humanity, 150 m deep and 30 m wide,
while this is where the most ancient remnants of human activity in Ermionida and the oldest
complete human skeleton in Greece were found. In addition, it is certain that it has been
inhabited by Homo Sapiens (30.000 years ago). It is the most important archaeological
finding of the 20th cen tury according to Dr. Rudolf, the famous Bavarian professor of
Archaeology, saying that the cave “with its findings it opened new horizons in the science of
palaeontology, anthropology and, generally, the entire world, since we have learned a lot
about the lifestyle and the way a place was organised for twenty thousand years...”. All its
findings are kept in the Archaelogical Museum of Nafplion. Within 15 minutes from Fourni
and Lambagianna beach, you will arrive at the entrance of the cave, after you cross the
path that leads to the cave, which is visible and the route is marked with red arrows. It is also
possible to visit it from Kilada by boat within 10 minutes.
