CORFU AROUND
ΠΑΛΑΙΟΠΟΛΗ
Αρχαιολογική περιοχή, 4 χλμ. από το κέντρο της πόλης, απέναντι από το Μον Ρεπό.
Εκεί αναπτύχθηκε η πόλη μετά την ίδρυσή της τον 8ο π.Χ. αιώνα από Δωριείς Κορινθίους
αποίκους. Έξω από το Μον Ρεπό θα δείτε ερείπια των ρωμαϊκών λουτρών, της
Αρχαίας Αγοράς και της παλαιοχριστιανικής Βασιλικής του 5ου αι. μ.Χ. , ενώ τα ερείπια
του ναού του Καρδακίου του 6ου αι. π.Χ και το ιερό της Ήρας εντοπίζονται εντός του
κτήματος του Μον Ρεπό. Σε μικρή απόσταση βρίσκεται ο Ναός της Αρτέμιδας Γοργούς.
Η παλαιοχριστιανική βασιλική της Παλαιόπολης, ένα από τα σημαντικότερα βυζαντινά
μνημεία της Κέρκυρας, που οικοδομήθηκε στα μέσα του 5ου μ.Χ. αιώνα. | The late Christian Basilica of
Paleopolis, one of the most important byzantine monuments of Corfu, built in the middle 5th century.
PALEOPOLIS
Archaeological site, located 4km from the centre of the town, opposite Mon Repos. This
is where the town was developed after its establishment in the 8th century B.C. by Dorian
Corinthian colonists. Outside Mon Repos you will see the remnants of the Roman bathsm the
Ancient Forum and the old Christian Basilica from the 5th century A.D., while the remnants of
the temple of Kardaki from the 6th century B.C. and the the sanctuary of Hera are inside the
Mon Repos estate. Within short distance you will find the the Temple of Artemis.
