ELECTRIC RAILWAY STATION
The building of Piraeus Electric
Railway Station located a few
meters away from the port was
constructed in 1926-1929 while
the railway operated for the first
time in February 27th in 1869,
connecting Athens with Piraeus
using steam-operated trains. The
initial design belongs to architect
Ioannis Axelos. It is an innovative
and majestic structure based
on the principles of eclecticism.
One of its typical features is
the enormous arched dome.
Today, apart form being one of
the most bustling train stations
serving thousands of residents
and visitors every day, it is also a
true attraction itself. Must Visit
The Electric Railways Museum
of Piraeus is located inside the
Electric Railways Station in
Piraeus. The Museum opened
in 2005. This is where you will
find from items like old uniforms,
newspaper and magazine scraps
to wagons and guide rails.
