KOUBOURIANA A peaceful and picturesque village in Argithea , built on a slope in the foothills of mount Koukourelos , at an altitude of 1.050 meters . The exact period of time that Koubouriana were established remains undefined . Based on its name , Koubouriana ( place names with this ending are the most ancient in Greece ) was founded before the invasion of the Ottomans in West Thessaly . After the liberation and annexation of Thessaly in 1881 , Koubouriana was the seat of the Municipality of Argithea , since from a geographical aspect they were the centre of the 24 villages of Argithea . In the seat of the municipality there were public services such as a small claims court , a department of the National Guard , a post office , am agronomy and a centre of parliamentary and municipal elections . Koubouriana were characterized as the “ Byzantium of Agrafa ”, due to the many byzantine churches and monasteries . In the village there is a Folklore House ( Museum ), hosting collections of traditional home ware , costumes , agricultural tools , etc . Today , many old stone houses are preserved , built before 150-200 years . The two monasteries of the village are sites of religious tourism : The Monastery of Spiliotissa , a religious hub in the area , and the Monastery of Panaghia Kosti , built in the 17th century , adorned with rich post-Byzantine icons .
