PETRILO It is built on the slopes of North Agrafa at an altitude of 1.160 meters , is the biggest village in East Argithea . It is one of the best resorts in the area , with unique vegetation and picturesque houses . It is considered as the historical seat of the Municipality of Argithea , since in the summer of 1944 it was the seat of the Government of the Liberated Greek state , the so-called “ Mountain Government ” that had its offices in the Elementary School of Petrilo . The official name of the village is “ Petrilo ” ( the place name is of Greek origin ), but the locals call it “ Petrilia ”, since it consists of many settlements . The petalshaped “ mahalas ” ( neighbourhoods ), as characterized by the locals , are separated by Petriliotis river that flows from the east of the village , a little after Voutsikaki peak , at
Ennea Vryses location , passes through the village and flows into Achelous river . The highest peak of the village , Karava ( 2.184m ), Voutsikaki as well as the peaks of thearea offer unrivalled views . Petrilo is ideal for mountain hikes , thanks to its trails that have been paved over the last years . The plethora of churches scattered in every settlement , which are around 19 , show the residents ’ deep religious belief The Monastery of Petrilo is considered to be the oldest , founded in the early 17th century . It should be noted that this is where Anastasios Gordios taught his lessons , who was the great teachers of the Greek nation . The main feast takes place on August 15th in Krania , with the famous “ klistos ” ( closed ) local dance stealing the scene . The village has two cultural associations with important action .
