The Importance Of Vaccines

By Ashleigh Amelung

To give context on why vaccines are important, an explanation of the disease they protect against may be needed.

A majority of the diseases that have a vaccine to help protect you are considered to be airborne. This means that you do not have to come into physical contact with someone to contract the disease, and it could just be in the air you breathe.

Many of these diseases can be considered to be deadly and some even life threatening. For example, mumps, measles, meningitis, diphtheria, and whooping cough are all diseases with vaccines and many can lead to permanent damage.
