Effects Altogether
CNN stated that if nothing is done to prevent further destruction, in the coming decades, we could see a ‘megadrought’. If you don’t know what a megadrought is, it is a prolonged drought lasting two decades or longer. Not only will there be a lot less water, but there are many other effects. Below are a few.
Other Drought Effects
- Wetlands dry up.
- Pollution of the remaining surface water.
- Dust storms become more common.
- Wildfires become more common.
- Loss of biodiversity.
Natural Disasters
According to USGS, climate change will inevitably lead to more droughts, which will definitely be more severe. More storms will circulate, also being more severe. Finally, wildfires will be another issue. Although wildfires aren’t directly linked with climate change, scientists believe it could be a factor due to the ground being dryer and the temperature rising. Due to temperatures rising and greater evaporation, the dry ground could catch fire easily.
