In the last 2 years Dog Gone Art received 3 nominations in the Internet Article category with one winner , so this year I thought I ’ d enter the entire magazine instead . It is an expensive category to enter as one has to print up 3 copies of 2 issues of the magazine which is the traditional entry requirements for print magazines . I ’ m told the entry requirements for online magazines will change next year so hopefully judges will be able to see the digital magazines as they are meant to be seen . Anyway it is an honour to be nominated as they say at the Oscars .
The magazines are actually just my hobby and as I mentioned before are on a shoestring budget and no staff . Subscriptions help to defray the costs somewhat but realistically my time put in the magazines , which is considerable , is unpaid . It is not my real job as I am actually a full-time professional dog groomer . Very busy at this time of the year ! The Universal Cavalier has used “ news editors ” for years to gather and submit news and photos from their countries for the news columns . I thought I would go one better with The Global Toy Spaniels and ask people in each breed to act as breed editors and organize breeders to interview , articles and news . While there was initial enthusiasm amidst the editors it quickly waned for a variety of reasons such as being too busy , unable to follow through to get interviews and articles delivered , etc . But where did that leave The Global Toy Spaniels ? My other 2 magazines have a degree of success perhaps I should concentrate on those ones ? I also have some other projects that I might like to pursue if I had some time . But I ’ m a Taurus and like the bull stubborn ! So I decided to try to put out what might be the final issue by myself , as best as possible . I then started to email people for interviews and articles . I searched out the breeds news and send off hundreds of emails requesting photos , etc . I did have one or two pieces remaining from two of the editors but for the rest I managed to get enough together to put together this issue and I have a little left over for a future issue . I was pleasantly surprised to find much of the response positive and not the onerous chore I was expecting based on what I was told . So I intend to act as the sole editor and see if I can continue to keep up the momentum …..
However some help will be needed so I invite readers to suggest breeders to interview who have made meaningful contributions to their breeds in their countries ; write and send in articles or suggest writers I could contact and send in your news / photos from your countries . Any help would be greatly appreciated !
This magazine reaches breeders and fanciers around the WORLD not just in a few countries and could be a great resource particularly for those who don ’ t live in countries where there are plenty of breed magazines available . It will also give everyone the opportunity to see what other countries are doing in their breeds . Also it doesn ’ t
