4. What are the housing options for expatriate workers?
One option is high-end housing villages that offer expat standard
accommodation within a secure environment. Land area devoted to
these villages has not increased at all in recent years, and available
properties ideal for expatriate rental continue to be the same stock
as that of 5 years ago.
Alternative housing options are located within a range of high-end
condominiums. In this area we do see new developments. Growth
in stock has meant the balance between supply and demand has
equalled out and there has been no increase in rental costs. These
options are priced lower than houses but still significantly more
than local housing.
In addition there are plenty of choices of serviced apartments
throughout Manila which cater to the short-term and business
traveller.
Mindanao Island has far more restricted options and prices tend to
be higher as a result.
5. What about international schooling?
There are several foreign schools operating in the country, chiefly
in Manila, catering mainly to students of expatriate families. These
schools generally have foreign teachers. They make it possible for
a foreign student to graduate in the same way as they could in their
own home country, thus facilitating future education on their return.
These schools frequently have a school year to match that of the
home country.
It is important that expats register their children as soon as they
become aware of their assignment to the Philippines. Note that
children may only be accepted after arrival in the Philippines
because an assessment will need to be made by the school.
