SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION
To support the global trend of an increase in short term assignments , this area of the housing market has developed considerably ; whereas just a decade ago the only quality option was top end hotels for short stays , there are now good Serviced Apartment options available in Lagos for short term & temporary accommodation – which is classified as a stay of 6 months or less . Booking well in advance is advisable as demand is high and supply still limited . Rates typically include Wi-Fi , breakfast , security , use of the swimming pool , 24hour power supply , satellite TV , cleaner daily & sometimes chef provision .
FACING IMPORTATION REALITY
Customs clearance can be a lengthy process and prior preparation of correct documentation is essential :
• Original passport and Original CERPAC receipt
• Tax Identification Number
• Letter from employing company in Nigeria , verifying employment , etc .
• Customs clearance process can take 3 / 4 weeks for a sea shipment and 10 days for an air shipment
• Original passport ( with CERPAC stamp ) is required throughout the entire process which means NO TRAVELLING DURING THE ENTIRE PROCESS FOR THE ASSIGNEE
• Customs may charge duty for extra items deemed to be more than the typical size of a standard home . ( e . g . 2 double beds for a single assignee )
• Importation of new furniture and appliances is prohibited into Nigeria
• Shipping food and alcohol to Nigeria is discouraged as it greatly complicates customs procedures , and delays clearance
