He was emasculated almost of every strength and only stayed on with the support of his wife and family. As a young man I watched as my friend was severely battered by life’s unfriendly blows and removed far away from all he had known in life that gave him security and relevance.

How does a man who had given himself into a noble profession be left to be this humiliated? How can one survive against politicians who see themselves as the Alpha and Omega in society? Many questions but little answers.

In those ten years the woman became the chief and on many occasions the breadwinner in the family. She took care of kids' school fees and whatever money could do. She also made sure not any individual had access to her husband, she was always in the lookout for signs that could suggest any insecurity. A strong woman, we would call her. But this reminds me of what one of my friends told us when we were still in the university. He said, ‘Marry a woman that loves you so that when the chips are down she will say it was her decision”. It was indeed this woman’s decision, having desired being his friend when they were just teenagers.

And also was the power of God seen in such moments. The family kept praying and soliciting for prayers from well wishers. For people who do not live in such societies you may not understand why people give themselves so much to prayers and requests to God. If you have a government that functions well, some prayer requests are not so necessary; but if the people in government are the reasons for society’s frustrations, then the populace do not have any other option but to seek Divine intervention.
