“Well then,” the huge bird creature raised his head, lifted his shoulders, and shook out his feathers, “let us fish. I for one am hungry.” He turned to them again, “Make baskets of branches and grass and be quick about it. It won’t take me long to fill what you can make.” Without another word he turned, took a couple of steps away from them, then jumped into the air again with a downbeat of his glorious wings. The three friends watched him soar lightly away from them, then swoop over the river. “Is that the last we’ll see of him?” wondered Grum. “No,” said Peep watching the blurring wings, “no — he’ll be back. He’s a bird of his word, whoever he is.” “We’d better get to work on those baskets then,” said Mrrgh stretching. “I wonder if he can carry all of us and several baskets of fish?” ------Look for part two in the next issue of The Ghouls’ Review!
