Peep: Part One

eep did what she did best — sneaked a look around the corner of the rocks, then
dodged back silently holding her breath. It was still there. She let the breath out slowly
and evenly, then silently drew in more air. She signalled to the others, the sign for
Back away quietly. Then she glared at them when they gestured quizzingly — What? Why?
We can do it! We’re so close!
She glared some more, pointed in the direction they had come, then, opening her eyes wide
to convey shock she raised her arms in the sign for big — huge — no way! and made shooing
motions with her hands.
They backed-off finally, ungraciously, but quietly as they had all been taught, moving carefully
across the open ground towards cover. Even the muttering was quiet, at first.
