THE MOVEMBER FOUNDATION UK – THE STORY SO FAR It has been 10 years since global men’s health charity, the Movember Foundation, established its UK office, and unleashed upon the British public its unique, fun and disruptive approach to raising awareness of men’s health, focussing on innovative research and programmes that tackle prostate cancer, testicular cancer and suicide prevention. The work the Foundation do is more relevant than ever, as the current state of men’s health is in crisis. On average, men in the UK are dying four years earlier than women; 12 are losing their lives each day to suicide; one man dies every 45 minutes from prostate cancer and over 2,400 are diagnosed with testicular cancer each year. Through its month-long Movember campaign, which runs throughout the month of November, it sets about making its commitment to ensuring  men live happier, healthier and longer lives a reality, by putting projects in place to tackle the issue of men’s health. Fundraising:   Whilst growing a moustache is still at the heart of the charity’s fundraising DNA, there are two other ways in which Mo Bros and Mo Sisters can offer their support; Move and Host.  52 | The Gentleman Magazine “Powered by Move encourages people to set a physical challenge for the month, whilst Host focuses on events that bring friends, colleagues or family together to celebrate the hairiest month of the calendar.  Since its conception in Australia over 14 years ago, the Foundation has funded over 1,200 innovative projects across 21 countries. Research and programmes: Prostate Cancer The annual Movember campaign has funded a network of  Health and Social Care Professionals around the UK who work within existing organisations to improve care and support for men and their families living with prostate cancer. In 2012, the Charity helped to establish the prostate cancer  online information  and  specialist nurse services  via phone, email and live chat: a service that has supported over 60,000 men and their families. Two  Movember Centres of Excellence  (Belfast-Manchester & London), the first of their kind in the world, were created in 2014 with the sole purpose of bringing together scientists and clinicians from different specialist areas to address the big questions in prostate cancer research. , Security in Motion”
