haven than Lanzarote.

But in the UK, warm weather means rain – and lots of it - with
widespread floods earlier last year. And despite Britain´s record year, the
average temperature in the UK was 11.5 degrees celsius - which would
be considered very nippy indeed on Lanzarote, where the average
temperature in the coldest month of January is 17 degrees.

Winter sun properties remain one of the key reasons for buying in
the Canaries; and the large population of “swallows” – mature, retired
or semi-retired people who winter over here and turn home for the
earmer summer months – is a phenomena that is not found anywhere
else in Spain.
Proven winter sun destinations also include the Caribbean, Florida
and Egypt, but the Canaries has proven to be cheaper, safer and closer
at hand than all of them. And there is no doubt that, unless we take into
account a few tropical French dependencies, the Canaries are the
warmest part of Europe. Las Palmas in Gran Canaria has been judged
to be the city with the “best climate in the world” according to a US study.
Another advantage of Lanzarote is its connections with the UK and the budget
flights available, meaning that nipping over to the island for the odd weekend is
very much a possibility.
Sport is the other attraction. The winter months are becoming ever more important
for athletes who want to compete in fresh, attractive conditions; golfers who want to
play all year round and surfers chasing some of the finest swells in Europe.
