THE POWWOW
This month we asked - ‘What do you
think causes Homophobia?’
Reiss
Lack of understanding,
Lack of knowledge,
Lack of compassion,
Lack of tolerance of differences in society,
Fear of misguided teaching.
That we’ll steal your soft
furnishings and re-upholster
them.
Leave a trail of glitter as we
walk through your house.
Afraid that you’ll kiss a
boy and like it.
David
Wow, that’s a question you need a trilogy of novels to
answer. There’s fear, religion, lack of understanding,
closetness, bad parenting, just to list a few. And one
more, that annoys me most, that a small selection of
gays that try to force themselves on straight people or
adhere to the bad stereotypes. The worst, one. yes, I’ve
heard it said, "I can’t do that I'm gay".
If you dressed as a
woman in your
spare time
Alex
Lack of experience with a homosexual, bad
homosexuals with bad habits of launching themselves
onto lads, past experiences and medical 'gays with
aids', the apparent ‘every gay has a disease...’ etc.
James
The inclination of the prejudiced-minded to scapegoat
vulnerable and conveniently defenceless minorities for
problems they aren't responsible for.
Internalised homophobia from being closeted.
The 'make them look worse to make myself look better'
tactic.
Brian
When people have a one track mind and think of sex
over a legitimate relationship and also the mind set that
religion runs our lives...
Mark
People who have something in the back of their mind
that they would like to try it or couldn't trust themselves
if they were drunk, so they put a total block on it. The
people who say they’re straight and won’t go near a
gay person, they can’t stand them. There must be
something in their mind wanting to try it and can’t
trust themselves around gay people. Well that’s what I
think anyway.
Better shoes than you.
Afraid that we’re too
fabulous to handle...
The big man in the
sky who tells you not
to like gays.
