Editor’s Letter
Welcome to what I’m calling #i5, yes
sounds almost futuristic. Which I
guess is what THEGAYUK is all about
really. When Graham (my partner)
and I started TGUK we wanted to
focus on the digital experience. Seeing
that traditional forms of media were
suffering from a continuous decline,
we decided to go entirely digital.
Focusing on shorter lead-times, more
up-to-date info and content created
and owned by you - our readers.
That’s what makes us different to
every other gay magazine. Sure the
lines blur and from time to time you’ll
find the same content across all the
gay media, but we are the only ones to
focus on the digital experience and
user generated content.
this issue. Never have I encountered a
celebrity that is so widely admired
across demographics. We got to talk
to Ms. Parton during a press
conference and she wowed each and
every journo - the tough crowd just
melted. Read our interview and you’ll
see why.
I’m excited. I’m excited that you all
get to come onboard with us as we
plot and twist through new media.
Delivering exactly what it is that you
want to read. No longer do the socalled experts get to dictate to you
what you should and shouldn’t be
wearing, eating, seeing or listening to.
This is your time.
We also have our exciting exclusive
underwear shoot, where we hoisted
a model into the treetops, bringing
you fashion from another vantage
point. You’ve never seen a jockstrap
worn like it!
Over 50 contributors from around the
UK go into helping create TGUK - and
we thank each and every one of them.
You can be part of this movement too.
If you want to share your thoughts,
write a review or generally get excited
about being part of something then
send me an email to
thehub@thegayuk.com and let’s get
the conversation started.
Anyways, what’s in #i5 - well the one
and only Dolly Parton is our star for
We also speak with the King Of Porn
Michael Lucas about what is in
front of his cameras now, as he vies
for the documentary market.
Of course we speak with the incredible
Sinitta, one of the best 80’s diva
icons. She talks to us about Simon
Cowell, mending a broken heart and
bitch slapping Pete Burns.
Lastly we had the incredible,
humbling privilege to interview a
man from Uganda about life as a gay
Ugandan. Despite a reprise in the law
this month, it doesn’t look as though
life for LGBTs in the African nation
are going to get better anytime soon
as sadly homophobia is so embedded
into the Nation’s heart.
