STUDENT-ATHLETE ACCOLADES
BGGA Student-Athlete Success at Prestigious St. Augustine Amateur
BGGA’s Petr Hubry takes second and breaks tournament record
Bishops Gate Golf Academy (BGGA) had
four student-athletes finish inside the
Top 10 at the prestigious St. Augustine
Amateur at St. John’s Golf Club.
“It didn’t break as I thought and it didn’t go in,”
Hruby said of the final putt, which left him with a
bogey on the par-4 18th and a 1-under 69 on
the day.
“I played with him the last two days and I’ve seen
him make putts, so I wouldn’t have been surprised
if he made it,” said Woon, 23, who entered the
final round a shot behind Hruby and BGGA’s
Tianyu Wu, who finished sixth with a 3-under 207.
Hruby, a native of the Czech Republic, traveled
with nine other classmates from Bishops Gate
Golf Academy in Howey-In-The-Hills. The high
school senior has committed to play golf at the
University of Washington next year.
“It was a good fight,” said Hruby. “The course
was awesome considering the storm they had.
The first two days were wet. But the greens were
awesome the whole week.”
The St. Augustine Amateur is an invitation only
event and had 77 players in the field.
PETR HRUBY
Petr Hruby had been putting really well, but
missed a 12-footer from the fringe on No. 18
that cost him the title. U-Minn Woon won by one
stroke with a 9-under par 201, which shattered
the old tournament record of 204. Hruby also
broke the record with an 8-under 202.
