Staff Spotlight: Paul Dewland Position Mental Performance Coach Describe your role at BGGA? I help the students develop resilience and accelerate their skill development. What’s your favorite part about your job? Working as a part of the team with the other coaches and staff, and seeing the kids grow as people and improve their golf skills. How did you get started in golf? My Dad took me to the range with him when I was really young, probably five or so. The range had a miniature golf course, so I started there and graduated to hitting balls. Once I could keep it on the planet, he took me to the golf course. Why do you love the game of golf? Golf reveals everything you need to know about yourself and your game. What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received? I asked a PGA Tour player the same question, and I loved his answer: Play within yourself. What is your favorite home-cooked meal? Hmm, probably prime rib. What is always stocked in your refrigerator? Frank’s Red Hot Sauce If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Toronto will always be home. It’s an amazing city and summers are beautiful there. But we also really enjoy Orlando’s weather and all of the things we can do here. Is there anything you are addicted to? Or can’t live without? My Macbook What movie do you watch again and again? Saving Private Ryan Where is your favorite place to travel and why? Europe. The history, food and diverse cultures are amazing there. What’s one thing we don’t know about you? I play guitar. I’m a total hack, but I love the sounds it makes and the challenge of learning how to play it. Favorite quote? Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. Favorite sport besides golf? Hockey. Go Leafs Go.
