Staff Spotlight: Scott Shaffer Position Senior Coach Describe your role at BGGA? Coach Full-Time Students in the afternoon and Short-Time Programs in the mornings. What’s your favorite part about your job? I always learn something. The staff here is very knowledgeable, so it is fun to learn from everyone and help students improve. It’s great to be part of a team. How did you get started in golf? My father loved golf and started me when I was around four years old. He said I used to aim for the bunkers to play in the sand. Why do you love the game of golf? It has always been a big part of my life. Even on my days off I still want to play or practice. It challenges you to always get better. I could never imagine my life without golf in it somehow. What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received? Always be open minded to learn something new. Just because something is different to your thinking does not make it wrong. What is your favorite home-cooked meal? Carne Asada with Rajas and Bombas with Chorizo. What is always stocked in your refrigerator? Cream for Coffee (a lot of coffee) and Salsa If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Probably Florida, as I have lived in Hawaii and up north and I prefer Florida. Is there anything you are addicted to? Or can’t live without? I have quit drinking diet soda so many times I lost count, so I would say Diet Coke. What movie do you watch again and again? I watch a lot of movies over again - Goodfellas, Major League and Star Wars just to name a few. Where is your favorite place to travel and why? Mexico. The lifestyle is so much more relaxed. Also, the FOOD!!! What’s one thing we don’t know about you? I love heavy metal music like Metallica, Tool etc. I have always wanted to play the guitar. I have bought three but always gave them to my son. Favorite quote? “My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.” Jim Valvano Favorite sport besides golf? I played a lot of sports growing up and loved them all, but as I get older I like watching F1 racing. I would absolutely love to go to a race.
