BGGA April Wrap-Up
Over the weekend of April 2-5, 2015, Bishops Gate Golf
Academy students took part in two AJGA events. First, was the
Bishops Gate Golf Academy Junior at Horseshoe Bay in
Horseshoe Bay, Texas hosted at the Horseshoe Bay Resort on
the Apple Course. Maria Hoyos of Colombia took eighth in the
Girls Division with scores of 78-77-73 for a tournament total of
228. Maria improved her score and placing each day. On the
final stretch of eight holes, she shot par or better and closed
out the tournament with back-to-back birdies. The other event
our students participated in was the TaylorMade-adidas Golf
Junior at Innisbrook hosted by Justin Rose in Palm Harbor,
Florida, on the Copperhead and North Courses at Innisbrook
Resort & Golf Club. In the Boys Division, BGGA senior Tiger Lee
finished in a tie for seventh place. Tiger’s best performance
came on the back nine in the first round where he did not card
a single score over par and added an impressive three birdies.
His card read 72-74-75 for a tournament total of 221.
Finally, over the last weekend in April, Robin Williams finished
the weekend at the FCWT at World Woods Pine Barrens with a
2-over-par tie for fifth place with a tournament total 72-72-144.
BGGA students Carlos Marrero and Tsukasa Kimishima both
closed the weekend at 4-over-par 146 to share a tie for eighth
place. Ending the weekend tied for 18th place, Mathias
Andersen shot a second-round 71, his lowest tournament round
to date, to stay in the top-20.
Two weeks later, the heavy rain at the AJGA Wells Fargo Junior
Classic presented by Mizuno caused the tournament to be cut
down to a one-day, 18-hole event. BGGA Sophomore and
University of Florida verbal commit Maria Hoyos fired a
1-under-par back nine to position herself in a tie for first place.
In the Boys Division, Marcos Montenegro shot a 2-under-par
70 to claim a solo sixth place finish.
The AJGA hosted the GGGA Junior Open at The Seagate
presented by Sportlink at the Seagate Country Club in Delray
Beach, Florida. Coming off of her win at the AJGA Wells Fargo
Junior Classic last week, Maria Hoyos fired a 2-under-par 70 to
claim the lead after the first round of play. Even though she
struggled in the second round, Maria fought her way around the
course and closed the weekend with a solo second-place finish.
At the Florida Junior Tour’s tournament at Viera East Golf Club,
BGGA junior and University of Georgia verbal commit Gabriela
Coello shot a tournament total 73-75-148 to claim a runner-up
finish.
At the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour Orange Lake Junior Open,
BGGA student Robin Williams claimed first place. Robin carded
9 birdies over the two-day tournament, propelling him to a
5-shot, wire-to-wire victory. In the Boys 15-18 Division, Mathias
Andersen shot a first-round 1-over-par 72 helping him claim his
first top-10 finish of the year.
