Why I’m Sick of the Female Representation Arguments
the stereotype of it still being
‘toys for children’ is something
the industry needs to surpass.
All of the issues above being
fixed would go a long way
to helping the image of our
beloved industry as a whole.
Summary
So what does this leave us
with? Well frankly, it leaves
us with an industry that I am
unsure why anyone on the
outside would want to be
part of, even hardcore female
gamers. Are women going
to change people being shot
in the face being our main
interactivity with most game
worlds? I doubt it. Is a female
voice in the industry going to
help change job security? Not
singlehandedly. Are the fairer
sex going to cause a mass
exodus in console development
and market saturation? Unlikely.
What about change hardcore
and casual developers’ ideas
on how to distribute and
sell their games? Nope.
without exploring the fact that
the lack of imagination in an
industry built on creativity is
shockingly low considering
the amount of re-skinned, repackaged products available.
So next time a game doesn’t
have a female character, maybe
you should look at how much
DLC they want to sell you before
commenting about how ‘unfair’
it is. How about next time a
caucasian male is given a job
at a popular enthusiast press
outlet, we think maybe that
person will write some really
informative pieces on how the
industry is destroying itself and
help bring attention to issues
of real importance, not judge
him by his colour or gender.
Maybe we could think about
how to help our beloved
pastime, not how to make
small pathetic arguments blow
up into pointless debates.
Maybe, just maybe.
I will say that it may greatly
help the perception of ‘boys
with toys’ but, as explained
above, this needs more than
one change to alter it. And
all these points are made
