ABOUT FIRAXIS
Firaxis Games, is an American developer that specialise in strategy games.
Founded by Sid Meier, Jeff Briggs, and Brian Reynolds in 1996 in Hunt Valley,
Maryland the company was acquired by Take-Two Interactive in 2005, joining
their 2K Games publishing label. With its headquarters originally in Hunt Valley,
they relocated in 2009, and now the studios reside in Sparks, Maryland.
Firaxis Games is responsible for some absolutely huge games including Sid Meier’s Alpha
Centauri, Civilization III, award-winning Civilization IV and Civilization V. Alongside the
Civilization series of games, Firaxis have consistently released additional content for games,
adding hours upon hours of extra replayability to the popular franchise. They have also
remade Sid Meier’s 1987 hit, Sid Meier’s Pirates, which was, and still is a firm fan-favourite.
Recent releases include XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within, as well as Sid
Meier’s Ace Patrol and Civilization V expansions, Gods & Kings and Brave New World.
