Know Thy Enemy - The Aliens of XCOM: Enemy Unknown to your hardy bunch of super soldiers, Mutons put the humans in their place. When you initially encounter them, it can be a little daunting. The game is tough enough against weak opponents, so it seems a little unfair that the Aliens can field stronger units than your own, on top of the superior numbers. The Mutons are not only tougher, but it’s clear that they think smarter too. Many a player has lost their finest troops to the “unexpected Muton wave”. this beast is the near-unbelievable number of hitpoints that hover above his head. “How in the holy Hell am I ever supposed to kill this guy?”, you tell yourself. It takes another change in overall strategy to finish him off. While focusing all your strength on one enemy may sound easy, the multilayered maps of Enemy Unknown can make it very difficult to get all of your troops in the right place. Even when this is achieved you’ve got to hope you’ve packed enough firepower to take him (or them) down. This initially shocking sense of dread (yet also awe) can be found when encountering several of the mid-to -ate game enemies in XCOM. The CyberDisc is a prime example of a more unusual Up to this point, it’s all pretty standard fare. Zombie-spawning Aliens, giant-headed Aliens, Aliens who pretend to be humans, they’re not too shocking to encounter because we’ve all seen them before.
