Elevator by Bailey Logan

Standing in an elevator

Clutching a crayon masterpiece

A little boy turns

To a mother’s weary face.

“I want to visit Granny.”

Not a whine, but a plea.

A tired voice responds,

“No, baby, you can’t.

They don’t let kids

in the hospital.”

Disappointed eyes return to blinking lights

Counting down the floors.
