REVENGE - Hymns Of Annihilation by Brett Hymes Revenge has always been a band that I have heard of but never kept close tabs on. I knew of them as the band that played a ton of shows at Anchors Up in Haverhill, Ma with all of the other great locals such as Streetsweeper, Our Side, Word For Word, Villain and whatnot and knew they were a heavier band but still never gave them the time of day, that is until I heard their last effort “Hymns Of Annihilation”. From the intro track Waco, TX A.D you can tell this album is no frills hardcore with enough Slayer-like divebombs and shred parts to keep you pumping up iron at the gym or just pumping up your adrenaline. With a sound that is comparable to Ringworm, Integrity and more modern contemporaries Incendiary, this album hits you with 9 tracks that make me want to punch holes within my walls due to how heavy the riffs are and how aggravated the vocals sound. From start to finish there is no filler on this album, the only downfall I’d say is the length of the songs, none of which is over the three minute mark and since this is only 9 tracks it leaves me wanting more. Also I have to address that the breakdown in the song “Hang The Judge” makes me want to turnover everything in my room, since it is a damn good pit part (then again the whole album is filled with many). I will be keeping an eye on Revenge now and will be hoping that I can catch them sometime soon.
