ebruary is here and love is
in the air! Each year since I was in middle school, my family and I made Valentine's Day cards and passed them out at different nursing homes throughout my community. This was a tradition my mom started. My family and friends sat around the kitchen table covered in construction paper, markers, scissors, and glue, but never glitter, and made as many Valentine's Day cards as we could until the supplies ran out. When my family and I arrived at the nursing home we were greeted with smiles and hugs. It's a special feeling brightening the day of individuals, even if they are strangers. I hope this year you spread love and make someone's day a little sweeter.
In the last issue of The Fund-ing Tree, it was mentioned that Funding & Partnership Services were working on a new type of project. Funding & Partnerships has been collaborating with the Instructional Services Division on the creation of the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the California Scaling Up Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Statewide Initiative. Last year, the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) was initially awarded $10 Million from the California Department of Education (CDE) to scale up MTSS efforts throughout the state. CDE then allocated additional funds to OCDE to support this work. Now OCDE is looking to put some of these grant monies into school districts across the state. You heard it here first, Funding Tree Family; the RFP for the California Scaling Up MTSS Statewide (SUMS) Initiative will be released on February 15. Schools Districts will be able to apply for $25,000 as a single Local Education Agency (LEA) or $50,000 as a consortium of LEAs.
Please be on the lookout next week for this funding oppor-tunity. Funding & Partnership Services hopes this news is just the Valentine gift you have been waiting for.
As always, be kind to one another.
