Family! Happy (early) Chinese New Year! 2017 is the Year of the Rooster and Funding & Partnership Services hopes it is a prosperous year for us all! From time to time, The Funding Tree likes to share a little history lesson and now is the time. Chinese New Year's Day is the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar. The date is different each year on the Gregorian (internationally-used) calendar, but is always between January 21 and February 20. This Year, Chinese New Year's is celebrated from January 28 to February 15. To all our friends that celebrate this joyous time, Xin Nian Kuai Le (which means "Happy New Year" in Mandarin Chinese)!

To keep us on track with our New Year goals, Funding & Partnership Services have been getting very beneficial feed-back regarding The Funding Tree layout and content. As you know, we strive to bring you useful information that is user-friendly to get funding into our schools and programs. The Funding team met with the Orange County Department of Education Communications Division and our creative juices began to flow. You may have noticed; we have moved our opening to the second page. This allows the Funding team to share more insight, fun facts, and updates on what's happening in and around Funding & Partnership Services. You may have also noticed we added new icons to denote the different sections within The Funding Tree.

Take a look and let us know your thoughts in the comment box on page VI (6). The only way the Funding office can improve is with your help and letting us know what works best for you and your programs.

Right now, Funding & Partnership Services is working on a new type of project. Normally, we read and respond to Request for Proposals (RFPs), but at this moment we are collaborating with Orange County Department of Education Instructional Services Division and creating a Request for Applications (RFA) for an upcoming funding opportunity for statewide Local Education Agencies (LEAs). Be on the lookout for more details in upcoming issues.

Lastly, you may have noticed that this is our 60th issue of The Funding Tree. To celebrate, we have made this our "Diamond Issue." Please enjoy!
