SPOTLIGHT ON

3. To Feed the Dead, You First Need Pan de Muerto!

The sweet Mexican bread is put on altars to honor, remember and feed dead family members crossing over on Día de los Muertos. This bread of the dead — similar in texture to challah and sprinkled with sugar — is a staple of the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead. The celebration on Nov. 1-2 aims to reunite 33the souls of the dead with the living. We went through the recipe together in class, we watched a video and talked about the ingredients. Then students tried it out at home bringing their results to class! What an amazing way to enjoy the spirit of this typical Mexican celebration!
