Highlights

The last 12 months have presented many challenges for our students, in relation to opportunities and motivation levels. Restrictions and quarantine periods have placed a number of barriers to direct service or direct activity. However this has not prevented many of our students from finding creative workarounds. Mr Steve Crichton presents a snap-shot of some of the programs and reflection of student experiences over the past year:

1. JAYE

The year started with the news that one of our groups, “Unicard”, had not only won the national JAYE competition, but had gone on to even greater successes at the European competition. This success was followed by the incoming Grade 11s, who established two highly successful JAYE projects in “Unlimited” copper bracelets and rings and “Flo-Pot” ecological garden starter packs. Both groups achieved success at the national level.

2. SPIRIT WEEK

October-November were a time of celebration and reflection with Spirit Week: Breast-Cancer Awareness, Movember, clothing and food appeals. This was followed by the appeal and raffle to purchase bedding needs for the residents at PeaceLab and for other agencies. In collaboration with Ramla Bay Resort we again delivered a large supply of high quality mattresses, doonas and pillows, which was complimented by the donation of a large quantity of sheets and pillow cases from families across the community.
