As a family we are extremely excited about our move and we are very much looking forward to exploring the main island of Malta and its archipelago and discovering the islands rich cultural identity and heritage.

From Kobe, Japan, Mike will be teaching Secondary Music next year--a pivot back to his roots after a 5-year stint in the industry with Universal Studios. Kyoko will be working as an Early Learning teaching assistant after 11 years serving in a similar role in Kobe. Our boys Julian and Kohta will be entering Grades 1 and 6, respectively. It was a wonderful 20 years in Japan, but we're ready for a new adventure as a family. We all love hiking, biking, and discovering out-of-the-way places, as well as movies and games of all kinds. We are so looking forward to meeting everyone and making our own contributions to the Verdala and Malta communities.

Lucky for me I get to teach the best subject in any school: Art. I love to talk about it, think about art, make it and even assess it for the IB DP program. There is so much to explore and practice within Visual Arts that I find myself learning something new, often. I really enjoy seeing how students can approach a subject or style of art that I have never considered; this makes me happy. For the past 11 years I have been a secondary art & film teacher, outdoor educator and multimedia instructor; before that, I was a documentary producer and fine art photographer. At this count, I have had many different experiences and jobs that ultimately help me be a flexible art teacher. I come from the western part of the States and have lived in California, Nevada, Washington and Utah. Internationally I have taught in Mali, Japan, Cameroon, and India. My family and I are really excited about exploring Malta and getting to know the students at VIS.
