A Word From

the Head of School

It was with great sadness that on March 12 we had to close the school gates again due to the Maltese government decision to close schools because of the rise in cases. However, I believe we can be very proud of the data this year that clearly shows that our vigilance at school has paid off, thanks to the parents, staff and students working together to make it work. Our COVID cases have stayed low and from what we know, not due to a school infection. Social distancing, masks and so much sanitizing has been worth it.

The transition to Distance learning however has been much smoother this time. Our Elementary staff and students are now competent Google classroom users and the added platform of Seesaw is giving our younger years a great opportunity to collate a wonderful digital portfolio over time. VIS has embraced 21st century learning in ways that a few years before were not thought possible. I am immensely proud of the VIS teachers who have developed new and exciting ways to make online and even zoom teaching engaging and ensuring that our VIS students even those on Distance Learning throughout the whole year are still progressing.

As we look to the future, it is clear that aspects of this may well continue into 2021-22, however with 90% of our staff vaccinated school can start to feel much safer and we will continue to be flexible and support students as best we can. We look forward to our students (fingers crossed) returning back to the classroom on April 12.

Stay safe and well,

.
