One of our greatest successes this year has been for our students to be physically on campus for a good part of this scholastic year. The covid protocols in place, the perspex, the hand sanitizing and reminders to socially distance, all seemed like small sacrifices to make - we were in school and doing great! So, when schools were told to close and we were all going to return to a world of online lessons, it did feel like a bit of a blow. However, with rising cases and increased transmission, the decision was an understandable and justified one. As Middle School Principal I have been astounded at the ease of which students and staff have been able to transition into distance learning mode and make it work. The students have shown what resilient learners they are through initially embracing a school life that looked different on campus and then being able to adapt to the online classroom and make it work. Resilience is explored through the IMYC big idea in Grade 7, and also promoted throughout the IMYCs personal dispositions (learning goals)which are linked to all subject areas. Resilience is an important life skill and one that we all need in our current world. So, I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the resilence our Middle School community has shown so far this year - well done, and fingers crossed that we once again return to campus in April to continue our learning journey.
