especially since Mum is helping me, there are 4 simple steps to carry out. First, we clean out the cat’s litter, then we feed them, in the meantime we have to clean their cubicles, after doing this for each of the cats, we give them attention, the amount of attention depends on the cat. Although this may seem like an easy task, it is valuable practice for any future zoo job I may have, which is what I really wish to do and would be the only thing to get me into adulthood. We have visited the dogs occasionally and with the help of the staff, we walked two of the dogs, at one point we were asked to entertain a puppy.

Meet some of the cats

Between October 11th 2020, and January 9th and playful, she would constantly demand attention and never allowed anyone to pass her cubicle without having to stop and play with her. There are currently 4 kittens at the sanctuary (all related) 2 males and 2 females, who are adorable but seem to be very scared and nervous. Staff at the sanctuary have named them after the 4 children from the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Lucy, Edmund, Suzan, and Peter. They are all ginger, although the females both have white patches, and one male, Edmund has long hair, almost like a mane and is a little braver than his siblings. He enjoys playing with a rod that has a toy mouse on the end of it, which is passed through the glass screen on his cubicle door. When we started, there was a tuxedo kitten, Journey, who was adopted after our first day at work, and a tabby named ‘Oni’ but he tragically passed away in November due to lung failure.

and January 9th 2021, 17 cats have come and gone. Each cat has a unique character. Nina (who left in December) loved playing but could sometimes be rather fierce, whilst Candy, who wasn’t adopted for a long time because of her expensive specialised diet, was very friendly and playful, she would constantly demand attention and never allowed anyone to pass her cubicle without having to stop and play with her. There are currently 4 kittens at the sanctuary (all related) 2 males and 2 females, who are adorable but seem to be very scared and nervous.

We have met the dogs and joined staff in walking them. One particularly feisty dog is a puppy named ‘Will’, or as we endearingly call him, ‘Mr.Nippy.'  Staff had warned us about his biting habits and often my hands bear resemblance to pin cushions after playing with him, but these are only playful scratches. We also met Pasha, a male siberian husky, who is silent and friendly and is 6 yers old.
