Former VIS Students - Where Are They Now?

Former Verdala students and staff members are a special breed. They are well-travelled, internationally-minded global citizens. And now we’re building a database of Alumni to network and use their expertise to help the next generations of VIS students.

Hello! My name is Sebastian Giudice and I’m currently pursuing my PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Virginia in the United States.

The research I do, and the Center that I’m a part of, focuses on Injury Biomechanics – the study of how the body responds to mechanical forces and how these forces cause injury. I think the most important thing that I can share about the work we do is to use your seatbelts and wear your helmets – they’ll save your life!!! I really can’t emphasize this enough.

While I’ve dabbled in lots of different areas of Injury Biomechanics, my research predominantly focuses on understanding what happens to the brain, from a mechanical perspective, when someone gets hit in the head and how this relates to injury. I’ve been incredibly fortunate that the work that I’ve done has led to numerous awards and scholarships, as well as articles published in medical and engineering journals.

Even though I graduated from VIS way back in 2010, Verdala still holds a special place in my heart (also, I just realized that this year marks 10 years since graduating… WOW). From hijacking Mrs. Simpson’s car and pushing it around the high school on senior day to dancing in swan lake for the talent show to just being with my best friends day in and day out, my Verdala memories are some of the best I have
